TheUrbanBassman

biography

I've been playing for far too long, and recently far too little.

I play bass and guitars, footle around a bit on other instruments. I'm trying to get a bit better at singing just now.

I'm also a fractal artist - my gallery is at http://almonaster.deviantart.com/gallery/

If you want to know more, just ask.

How to make a cheap-ass folding guitar stand.

May 20th, 2011 + 9:05 AM  ·  TheUrbanBassman

If price is a problem, here's a cheapo alternative.

You will need...

A piece of scrap wood(or MDF/chipboad/similar) approx 50x30x1.5cm  (20x12x5/8 in).
(This can be adapted as necessary for other instruments)
A saw
A drill
A screwdriver.
A hinge (not essential)
Short screws to attach the hinge.
Some cloth
Some glue
A piece of string

Cut your wood into two (roughly) identical pieces as shown.

Join the edges marked with 3 dots with your hinge.
OR
Place the pieces together, and glue some cloth from one side, over the 2 marked edges and on to the other.
Once the glue has set, open flat, then glue some more cloth across the other side.
For added durability stitch the bits of cloth together through the hinge line.

Drill holes somewhere around the single dots. Thread a piece of string between them.
Adjust the length of the string to  a little less than the width of your guitar.
Tie knots at both ends to stop it slipping through the holes, and trim off any extra.

Glue some material along the cut edges to protect your guitar.

Le voila!

Reggae 4 wisdom

May 18th, 2011 + 9:05 AM  ·  TheUrbanBassman

This is an attempt to answer Wisdom's request (http://forum.bandamp.com/Audio_Review/6258.html

) for some reggae lyrics. Feel free to hack them about...

It seems like yesterday
You were laughing with the children
Smoking, drinking beer
Living life in your own way

Now an empty space is
filling all of your old places
Voices everyday are
drowning out the ones who care

I want to let you know
That your song is not forgotten
Oh no

Walking down the street
I hear people at each corner
Talking of a future
you encouraged them to greet

We are not the same now
we will work together somehow
The problems that saw
will all fall before a new law

We want to let you know
That your song is not forgotten
Oh no

Mail prefs

May 3rd, 2011 + 6:05 AM  ·  TheUrbanBassman

I had un-checked all the E-mail notification options, but I'm still getting an external E-Mail to notify me of PMs here. I went back in to check the options afterwards, and they're still correctly unchecked.

No biggie, but...any suggestions?

You Tube Links

April 18th, 2011 + 7:04 PM  ·  TheUrbanBassman

The youTube tag doesn't seem to be working for me. I just get a load of white space in the post and nothing click-able.  I've changed my post to use URLs meanwhile, but some advice/assistance for next time would be appreciated.

My baby done left me

April 18th, 2011 + 7:04 PM  ·  TheUrbanBassman

This was written as a kind of "summary of the blues", so it does deliberately use one or two cliches. I hope its different enough to work, though. Your opinions?

Please Mr stranger won't you spare me a dime?
I've got to find a way to pass a little time.
Ain't got no money, got no place to stay
But that don't matter to me after today

My baby done left me
My baby done left me
My baby done left me all alone

I asked the doctor could he ease my pain
I got the shivers burning through me again
Woke up this morning and I wished I was dead
Ain't got but one thought running through my head

My baby done left me
My baby done left me
My baby done left me all alone

- solo -

My baby done left me
My baby done left me
My baby done left me all alone

Please Mr stranger won't you spare me that dime?
I've got to find a way to pass a little more time.
I've got the blues, Lord I've got them so bad
I've gone and lost the best girl I ever had.

My baby done left me
My baby done left me
My baby done left me all alone
